Explosive Exploration of the Denakil

  1. What a rich post: such diverse landscapes and rich colours and sensitive portraits of people. My 4year old grandchildren are fascinated by volcanos: I’ll be showing them your photos, the best ones of a volcano that I’ve seen. Thank you yet again for letting me travel with you to places I’ll never visit myself.

    1. Thank you for your kind comment 🙂 And thank you for following and sharing these places with your grandchildren. As a child I would often see photos of incredible places and that has really pushed me to go see them for myself! 🙂

  2. These are beautiful landscapes! They’re like something out of a dream, or sci-fi movie.

How badly did the salt lake burn when you went in? When I went to the Dead Sea, just the dry-ish skin on my elbows felt like it was on fire!

    1. It felt like I was on Venus or something. So I had a ton of giant blisters from climbing the volcano that I had just popped. So…. it hurt a lot. But it was my first time in a body of water that was so dense so I got over it fairly quickly (it still hurt though).

  3. Impressive photos of a special place, Raisa. I first learned about the colored pools of Dallol from NatGeo, and about Erta Ale from another blogger — what otherworldly sites they really are! I’ve been dreaming of visiting Ethiopia since I started blogging a few years ago, so following your blog has been delightful. Your posts constantly remind me to never let go that dream.

    1. Thanks for your comment Bama! It is definitely a very special place. You should come visit Ethiopia! It’s an amazing place (maybe I’m biased) and you should definitely never let go of the dream 🙂 Let me know if I can help in any way.
